Spooky Mummy Treats

They are already breaking out the Halloween costumes and decorations in stores so that gives me the go ahead to post about Halloween stuff now right? 😂

It's no secret that Halloween is my favorite holiday. Maybe it's the theatrical part of me that loves dressing up and getting into costume or the fall weather and pumpkin spice everything but I'm obsessed with Halloween!

My kids love frosting! When I have some leftover, we spread it on Graham Crackers and make a little  cookie sandwich. Today I'm sharing a fun little mummy treat you can make with your kiddos in 10 minutes or less (if you prefer using store-bought frosting 😉).

You will need:

*Graham Crackers

*White Frosting (I use THIS RECIPE

*White Chocolate Candy Melts

*Candy eyes 👀

*Plastic Squeeze Bottles

*Parchment paper covered cookie sheet

1. Spread the frosting in between two Graham Crackers to make a sandwich.

2. Heat up the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and pour into the plastic squeeze bottles.

3. Put the cookie sandwiches onto the parchment paper covered cookie sheet and drizzle the chocolate over the top of the cookies.

4. Stick the candy eyes onto the Graham Cracker cookie sandwiches.

These mummies make a super easy last minute school Halloween party treat or a fun activity you can do with your kiddos!

Gingercake Holiday Sewing Series: Lulu Llama Pattern

I can't believe there's only a few weeks left until Christmas! Each year I try to make at least one handmade gift for each of my children. I know they only have a few years of snuggling the stuffed toys and dolls I make them before they "grow up." 😭 I hope its something special they can hold onto to remind them of when they were little.

This year, I was thrilled when Virginia asked me if I would like to be apart of her Gingercake Holiday Sewing series. Yes please! Her patterns are absolutely adorable and so easy to follow!

I had been eyeing her newest Lulu Llama pattern for a while now so I decided to sew 3 of them up for Christmas! We have an alpaca breeder down the road from us and while they aren't llamas, the kids always see them and get super excited as we head into town, so I know they will be stoked to get these cute Llamas on Christmas morning. 😂

This was such a fun sew! It's perfect for a beginner but also fun for a more advanced sewist or doll maker to get creative with.

I let my littles pick out their favorite fabrics (they didn't know what they were picking it out for though 😉) and then added some more traditional elements of decorated llamas in there too.

I was also able to pick up the faux fur on sale for 40% off at JoAnns and used my 20% off coupon on top of that so it made these very affordable. So keep your eyes open 👀 for sales too.

If you'd like to make your own adorable llama this Christmas, you can snag the Lulu Llama pattern HERE for only $5!! ☺️🙌🏻

And hurry over HERE and enter to win: A set of 7 Dritz tools, a pattern from Sewpony and a lovely Fat Quarter bundle from Llama Fabrics over at Gingercake this week!!

The Winking Apple

Hi there! Sierra here! I know its been a while so I thought I'd pop in and share with you what I've been up to. Lately, I've been a contributor over at Or So She Says, working on dolls for my shop: The Winking Apple and sewing up projects for my 3 littles in my spare time (which there doesn't seem to be enough of, am I right?). Here are just a few of the dolls I've made over the past year:

I continue to add more dolls weekly, so feel free to stop on by and have a look around!

Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I'm serious...I love it more than Christmas.

That's why this year, I started prepping two months in advance to make all three of my little's costumes. I know, I know...it was a little ambitious, but after settling on what they wanted to be (kids change their minds approximately 90 times before Halloween) I embarked upon the handmade Halloween costume journey.

It actually wasn't too painful, except for the fact that I may have caused permanent damage to my arm, in the process of hand painting all the stripes on my son's Jack Skellington costume but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I gave myself a budget of $30 for all three costumes. A while back I visited that store with the little red circle inside a bigger red circle and almost fell over at how much one costume cost. So, I said: "I'll make all three for that price!" (we've already established that I have an overly ambitious brain) and I set off to work. A tulle skirt may have been cut up in the process but I reused, recycled and found some very inexpensive cotton fabric to work with.

And after over a month of work...voila!

Handmade Gift Ideas Christmas 2015 Edition

Hi there! Its Sierra here! Christmas is coming! I challenged myself this Christmas to make all handmade gifts (except the ones from Santa) using what I had on hand or under $20 for each child. I started in November and I was able to reach my goal a week and a half before Christmas! Yay!

Today I'm sharing what I made and the patterns I used. Maybe you can get in some last minute Christmas crafting in this week! :)

1. Mermaid/Shark Tail Blankets:
For these I measured my 3 children and drafted up a pattern based on their height. Its pretty simple to make your own pattern, but if you are looking for a great free mermaid tail blanket pattern you can get one HERE or HERE

2. Wooie Hobby Horses:
This adorable pattern is from Whimsy Woo! You will love the many ways you can customize it and what kid wouldn't fall in love with the make believe magic of owning and riding their own horse! Also, from now until December 17th, you can get 30% off all Whimsy Woo patterns if you join the Facebook group HERE.

3. American Girl Doll Apron, Chef Hat and Oven Mit:
The second item on my daughter's Christmas list was an apron for her American Girl Doll. There is an adorable FREE pattern over at: DayDream Doll Boutique that fit the bill perfectly! Its super easy and super cute!

4. Mermaid Dolls:
I thought these mermaid dolls would go perfectly with the mermaid tail blankets so I whipped a few up from one of my favorite books: "The Making of a Rag Doll" by Jess Brown." Its a heavily modified version of the pattern but you can use your imagination and come up with your own! If nothing else, YOU NEED TO BUY THE BOOK! Its amazing! :)

5. Robot Doll:
My son is obsessed with Robots! So, I thought I would make him one to snuggle at night. I was inspired by this one and came up with my own pattern to sew up!

6. Baby Doll Carrycot:
My littlest one is crazy about baby dolls and loves carrying them all over the place! I figured it was time to make her something she could carry them in. This FREE pattern over at Sew Mama Sew was absolutely darling and just what I was looking for!

 Happy Holidays and Happy Crafting!

What I've Been Up To...

Hi there! Sierra here! I feel like its been forever! But don't worry! I haven't traded in my crafting for good! As it turns out, being a mom, preschool teacher and pulling all nighters at the sewing machine have made for a busy/exhausting life with not very much downtime.

BUT....

Here's what I've been up to lately...

Dress making...

I've had quite a pattern addiction lately...

Doll making...

Updated Miss Fox pattern of my own (See the old one here)

Bunnies! I tested out this adorable Lieschen Mueller pattern and put it to some super great use over the spring break!
Read the book: The Making of a Rag Doll, by Jess Brown and made these lovies from the patterns inside:

And other fun crafting...

Girly things

Frozen cake with hand painted peg dolls:

Paper flower crafting:

I'm excited to get back into the swing of things and share all of my sewing/crafting adventures with you. While you are here, have a look around...
